"Security Weekly 2026-W44: PHP and Brotli Now Under Active Exploitation"

恩梯科技 2026-11-01 55

Security updates for week 44 of 2026 (from October 26): almost nothing new broke this week, but the two PHP remote code execution flaws, Brotli and GitLab from last issue were all added to the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog; Symfony corrected its own five-month-old "already fixed" statement; WordPress 7.1.4 fixes a weakness in the upgrade process. Every item was checked against the vendor's own advisory, and what we could not confirm is listed too.

Asking what others budget for security, or what percentage of revenue it should be, tells you nothing about your own company. What actually sets your ceiling is working out what one day of downtime, or one breach, costs you. This piece gives owners a four-step calculation they can run themselves.

Think your company is too small and has no confidential data, so nobody would come after you? Attack code scanning the internet does not look at company size, only at whether a door is shut. This piece breaks down why four things a small company holds are worth money: compute on your host, your domain and mailbox, your customer list and supply-chain trust, and the pressure of not being able to trade.

The website, the admin panel, the mailbox, the third-party services — if you cannot list them, you cannot protect them. You do not need to understand the technology, but you do need one list that shows every outward-facing entrance. This piece covers four categories that get missed, with an inventory table an owner can fill in alone.

Security updates for week 43 of 2026 (from October 19): two unauthenticated remote code execution flaws in PHP, one CVSS 10.0 in GitLab, eight eMudhra intermediate certificates whose private keys leaked, plus Node.js, Laravel, Java and Chrome. Every item was checked against the vendor's own advisory, and what we could not confirm is listed too.

When a security advisory comes out, the first question is whether it affects you. You do not have to check the versions yourself, but you do have to know what to ask and what counts as an answer. This piece collects four replies that sound like answers but are not, and how to follow up on each.

Helper CTO Series 30 | We're Still Here After Launch: Where Helper CTO's Line of Responsibility Runs

恩梯科技 2026-10-17 344

On launch day the vendor says "well, that's that," and when something breaks afterward, no one's accountable — that's most owners' shared experience. This is the series closer: using the idea of "a line," it covers where a typical project's line of responsibility breaks, where our line extends from takeover through well past launch, and what you get when that line ends.

The last line of a one-page health check report is one of three conclusions: ready to take over as-is, needs cleanup before takeover, or a rebuild is actually cheaper. This article covers the path behind each conclusion, how the cost works, and three things you can do after receiving the report — including doing nothing.
